This session will explore the epidemiological and biological links between COPD and lung cancer, identify patients at elevated risk, and provide practical strategies for integrating lung cancer screening into routine COPD care.
Objectives:
- Describe the epidemiological and biological relationship between COPD and lung cancer, including shared risk factors and mechanisms beyond tobacco exposure.
- Identify patients with COPD who may be at increased risk for lung cancer and appropriate candidates for lung cancer screening.
- Integrate lung cancer screening discussions into COPD management using patient-centered, evidence-based communication approaches.
- Recognize common barriers to lung cancer screening among patients with COPD and identify practical strategies to support timely referral and uptake.
